what year is my 55 hp mariner outboard

Hi, can anyone help. Im trying to find out the year of my japanese built 55 hp mariner outboard motor i think it might be a 1976 model but need to know for sure. serial number 663- L 34698

Hi, can anyone help i have a 1976 55 EL model 663 mariner outboard with a blown gearbox i have found a cheap gear box belonging to a 1976 60 EL model675 will it fit and are the parts interchangable.
