Mercury 25HP - 3 simple questions I need to get her running!

I just bought a boat with a Mercury 25HP engine on it. I had a couple simple questions to get her going again.

Here is a picture to help with the exact model. Its from 1992 I believe.

1. Is this part number the correct fuel line connector? It looks like it would fit right, but I am not sure. Is this a pretty standard fuel line connector, like it would fit many different engines? iBoat part number

2. I need a gasket for the top cover because the old one is toast. Which part number should I be looking for?

3. I currently have the outboard off the boat with the lower end and prop in a big bucket of water. After turning it on for about 20-30 seconds, I am still not getting any water to be pumped up and out at the top. Is 20-30 seconds enough or do I need to try this in the lake? Or is the pump system broke?

The fuel connector is unique to Mercury.
The foam going around the bottom of the cowl might be tough to chase down...you might have to go to a Merc dealer (?). An alternative would be some automotive window molding. Some of it is almost as soft.
The water should do something almost immediately.
I strongly recommend you replace the impeller.
I think your engine is older than '92. I'm thinking at least 10 years older.
Can you post the serial number?

I'll grab the serial number when I get home so you can further help.

For the foam going around the cowl, isn't there a gasket I can buy from mercury direct?

You are going to have to check with a Merc dealer.
I'm skeptical though.

Thanks for the help! I will call and ask about that part.

As for the fuel-line connector. What makes you think its specific to that particular outboard motor? It really looks like it would fit.

It's specific to Mercury in general. They were the only ones that used that type of fitting.
Personally, I like it better than the new style.

So I found a place that stocks the spark plugs, cowl rubber, and fuel connector I need. I called them up and made sure it was the right part. Hopefully when they get here everything will bolt up!

Okay, so I guess I have another question.

How do I get a boat like this:

to launch off the beach. Its a 16ft aluminum. I want some type of wheels that can be folded up when the boat is in the water. What options do I have...and what kind of tires do I need? Rubber inflatables or big plastic ones?

There's a fellow in my neighborhood with a kayak. He made a dolly out of 2x4's and lawn mower wheels. It's shaped like an H so the Kayak sets in it. It even breaks down. Obviously a little lighter that what you need.
You are definitely going to need pneumatic tires to go over a beach. I'm thinking wheel barrel tires. These can be had super cheap from from Harbor Freight. You'll need a rod for an axle - probably have to get that from a hardware store and straps while you're there to attach the axle and whatever hardware to keep the wheels in place on the axle. You could make a frame out of 2x4's...a wide H. You'll have to figure out a way to keep the axle stable...bungie cords ???
I'm just coming up with this off the top of my head.
Hopefully someone else will jump in with something better.

They used to make a set of wheels that attached via a permanent bracket on the transom. You can get a bow piece that will allow you to tow the boat with the wheels on for short distances. The wheels are removed when the boat is on a trailer or on a car top. The wheels attach to the brackets with hitch pins and fold up when the boat is in the water to reduce drag.

I got a set for my dad 20 years ago and I thought I got them through Cabela's but I don't seem them there now. Too bad, I just threw them out last summer.

Thanks for the tips. I'll figure out something and share it with you all! Wheel-barrow tires sound like a great idea. Harbor Freight is where?
