Since I replaced my gas gauge, guess i better replace the sending unit. At half full, gauge now reads 1/8 to 1/4.

Opps, gotta measure the depth of the tank. Removed the 5 screws and pulled the old sending unit out just enough to ran a ruler down the edge. 11 inches deep.

And sure enough, one of the screws went in with it. Tank is aluminum.

Gee, if the boat is manufactured right, should be a (non-metallic) stainless screw, so a magnet isn't going to work. Might have to go with a small tropical fish net with a long handle.

Any one else have any Ideas or Comments (beyond me being an idiot) ?

Thanks.

Yeah- go buy a new screw. You'll never be able to fish it out.

I'm with Oops. Drain it and use the claw type extractor with a mirror so you can find the screw.

It's not going anywhere so I'm in the new screw camp as well.

I think i will go fishing for it. I am far to paranoid to leave it there.

What are the chances the screw gets sucked up into the intake, just as I am the furthest I have ever been off-shore ?

I think Murphy is my first mate & his current law is that he teaches me something new every time.

Thanks

no chance that the screw could get thru the filter, it will rattle around forever but not hurt anything. bob

Ayuh,....

I'd say about 1000 times Less likely as getting Struck by Lightening,...
Even in Your area....

I'd spend the dime, buy a new 1 at the hardware store...

Re: New Gas Additive

Have you tested the remaining screws to make certain they aren't plain steel? Most all of the OEM tanks I have out here have plain steel screws. Just regular old self tapping screws threaded into the aluminum. Only one has stainless screws and that one is an above deck tank.
