Steering problem

I have a 2006 60hp merc outboard with the nofeedback steering, this year the steering started to get tight. I called the dealer and they told me to check a couple of things with the steering cable at the motor, nothing is bent or corroded and the steering shaft has been greased. I was able to get it to loosen up and worked well all season. The boat has been sitting idle on the trailer for about a month and a half, today I tried to turn the wheel and it will not move in either direction. Has anyone had this problem or do you have any idea what could be wrong. Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Re: Steering problem

To check if it is the motor swivel or the steering cable/drive, disconnect the drag link at the motor . If the motor turns freely then then the problem is in the cable or drive system. Lack of lubrication on the steering cable shaft that runs through the transom mount is often the culprit. Try undoing the cable nut and withdrawing the shaft. If it wont come out then that is the problem.
Will take some work and a some cussing to get that free.
If that is not the problem then chances are the cable is siezed. Will require replacing.
