Gauge problem

HI
The other day i put a used lower unit on a 125 HP Force. I was checking it out when i notice that the tach was'nt reading right and the fuel & volt meter was'nt working. When i just turn on the key the volt & fuel gauges registered ok. When i started the engine the tach would just go to about 200 RPM. The volt meter and fuel gauge would go back to {O}. Everything else worked before. I was wondering if anybody had any ideals on what could cause this.

I ordered a rectifier but i won't be able to check it until i get to Florida. Hope to be leaving right after New Years. The weather here is snowing and freezing.
