how does one test the ignition switch (key type) on mariner 50 hp 1990 with tilt and trim. installed a new oem starter and only get a click when the ignition key is turned to start. i connected a multimeter to the starter and turned the key and heard one click. i think the click is coming from the solenoid and not the starter. thanks for any advice. i am trying to restore my dads 1990 key west and mariner 50 hp. rob...

If the solinoid clicks when you turn the key to start it's probably the solinoid. Jump the solinoid across the 2 large terminals and if the starter runs change the solinoid.
