No idle-blown crankcase gasket?

My 1989 70 Yamaha will not idle. When I pull the #2 and #3 spark wires it makes no difference in RPM. When I pull the # 1 wire the motor cuts out immediately.

A friend thinks that maybe the crankcase gasket between the 2 and 3 cylinder is blown. Geez I hope not. Anyone think it could be something else?

Well, your post makes no sense...WHY does your buddy think the headgasket is blown....he get a funny feeling? Tea leaves?
How about a simple compression check on all cyls? How about describing what the plugs look like? Have you tried a little gas or starter fluid in carb throats? Do I think it COULD be something else? Sure, lots of things...

Re: No idle-blown crankcase gasket?

If you take another look YMT40 you will see it says the "crankcase gasket" NOT head gasket.

I have had the head off and all cylinders look great, no scores and no broken rings and the plugs are new. I removed the carbs and cleaned them and the timing is correct.

I cant do a compression check at this time as I am away from the boat at this time.

So what are some of those "lots of things" YMT40?
