first time control install( 92'evinrude 88hp)

i just replaced my old controls... almost. when i start the motor, it races , so i have to shut it down. it seems like i followed instructions..but this is my first boat and attempt at this replacement. the problem is probably right in front of me... any advice?

do you have the adjustments about where they used to be?

check your throttle linkage and adjust your cables(at the cowling) until your linkage hits the idle adjust screw
