Hello All,

What compression is typically found on a brand-new 90 ELPTO and what *absolute* reading requires overhaul? I cannot see any figures in my service & repair manual. Other posts on this topic tell me that anything above 100 PSI and 5-10% between cylinders is OK, however my mechanic is saying the official figure is 10 Atmospheres (147 PSI) and overhaul is required if the reading is below 6 Atmospheres (88 PSI).

A reference to the service & repair manual page or a screenshot with the figures in question would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Dmitriy

Believe what you read here, Dmitriy. Compression guages, conditions and technique vary too much to set arbitrary specs.

Re: 90 ELPTO compression readings

Hello JB -

I do indeed. My compression reading is 103 PSI, which tells me we are OK. Just wanted to know where I am with it within the maker's margins.

Many thanks,

Dmitriy

I have a 1999 90 HP ELPO that Ic bought well used about a year ago and it ~110 psi in all cylinders.

Mikeneal - thanks for your reply.

Any more feedback from newer 90 ELPTO owners? I'm still looking for a reading on a brand-new or nearly new outboard of this model.

Thanks in advance,
Dmitriy
