Default Evinrude LightWin Smoking

I have a 1969 Evinrude Sportwin 4 HP motor and I just cranked it up and found that it smokes a bit more than usual and it is leaving oily deposits in the water barrel. I was running a 40:1 mixture but was advised top switch to 50:1. Well, that's what I did and I am not sure that it may be the cause. This was the 1st time I cranked her up in over 8 months. Is the smoking and deposits due to just it sitting for a while or could there be serious underlying problems? Thanks in advance!

All sounds perfectly normal to me. Give it a good hard run and I bet the smoke will all but disappear. Time to worry is when it does not smoke at all. because you've probably forgot to mix the oil into the fuel.

That ones got high and low speed adjustments on the carb. when it has settled own it might be worth checking those as described in the "Engine FAQs"

50: 1 is the correct mix.

sounds normal for a barrel. but if it has never been done, and i doubt it has, a decarb would liven it up. gets the old built up crud out the internals.

Decarb, take a can of seafoam put 3/4 of it in the gas tank, with only 1 gallon of premixed gas. put the rest in a spray bottle. start the engine, and let it come up to temperature. then remove plugs, and them some real good shot of seafoam into the cylinders, replace plugs, let sit 15 minutes. restart, and spray the rest of the seafoam into the carbs, so the the motor almost stalls, wait and repeat until the seafoam is gone.then take for a wide open spin. then put in new plugs, ad premixed gas to the tank, and take it for a wide open throttle spin. it is going to smoke like a house on fire, during this process.
