mercury 1996 hard to start

I just bought a 1996 mercury it has no choke how do you start this motor or can you have a choke put on it.

I suggest that you indicate the size of your motor to get the most useful responses. A 200hp motor is a lot different than a 10hp motor and good advice may depend on the size motor. For example, my 150hp does not have a choke. Instead it has an enrichener, which must work properly to start a cold motor.

If it has electric start, push the key in for choke (enrichment).

the motor is a 40 2cylinder 1 carb. it says sea pro on the side it is a tiller handle push button start manul enrichment
