Test trim gauge

Does anyone know how to test an OMC trim gauge off the boat with an ohm meter. Sender seems to be OK and reads 200 ohms up and 0 ohms down which manual calls for. Boat is in another state for now but I have gauge here and have opened it and repaired a broken needle. Would like to test it.
Gauge is for a 1992 OMC Cobra drive.

Just hook the + and - up from a 12v battery, this should cause the gauge to peg all the way up and then touch a jumper from the - terminal to the sender terminal and the gauge should zero out.
