I am trying to winterize my my 1978 90hp Mercury outboard. The manual says to pull the flush plug but it doesn't tell me where it's located. Does anyone know where it's located.

Re: Flush Plug

Linda, Some of the older Mercs had plugs on the waterpump. Youi could hook a hose up to these and flush 'em. Your motor doesn't have this feature.

To winterize an outboard, put some stabilizer into the gas tank and run the motor on the flusher device until the stabilizer is circulated. Now spray some fogging oil into the three carbs until you get some smoke. Try to stall it with the fogging oil. Stop the motor, remove the flusher and let the water drain. Remove the fill plug on the geacase and then the vent plug, and let the gear oil drain. Refill it. Hit the grease fittings. Spray the powerhead with some WD-40 or a corrosion guard, disconnect and charge the battery, and you are done.
