OK. This is my first post and my first boat since my dad had one when we were growing up, and this is an IO versus an outboard. 1988 Four Winns, 305, cobra outdrive. It ran fine in the river and there were no overheating problems. When I got home and tried to flush with muffs, it didn't pick up the water. If I held them tight around the drive, hot water would come out. I would think that it should pick up the water if it ran cool in the river. The engine was idling, but should that matter?

Sorry, I'm a rookie and just learning, so any help would be appreciated.

Re: Flushing

Was a stream water comming out the little pee hole on the starboard side of the drive? It's normal for water to spray out from around the suction cups you don't need to hold them tight as long as they are positioned over the intake and not slid down out of position, you should get some waterous exhaust dribbling out the bottom where the exhaust bellows are even at an idle, you may not see anything at the prop exit at an idle.
