How hot should the pee be? 1998 Mercury 175

I just got my powerhead back form the rebuilder. I put it on and it fired right up, faster than it ever had before. The water coming out of the pee hole, after about 3 minutes, seemed hotter than before, and the spray was very strong. I shut it down and went and bought a thermometer. Letting the water spray into a Styrofoam cup and measuring the temperature of the water it was 140-150 degrees from several tests; It would go up and down. I know they installed a new 140 degree thermostat but the water never seemed that hot before, that I noticed, and the spray was never that strong. The water pump was replaced a few weeks ago so it was not replaced again for this rebuild. It is a 1998 Mercury 175 XL 2 Stroke.

140-150 degrees is fine. The old thermostat probably wasn't closing.
