Carb painting?

Hi all!

How would you guys recommend a carb should be painted? Is this a good idea in general, or am I wasting my time?

So far I have followed my mechanics guidelines which were to use Mercruiser's own primer and then after it has cured fo a week then the final layers with "phantom black".

At this stage it got me thinking.. Will these paints really work and endure gas stains? Should I paint inside of the airhorn (avoiding jets) or not. I?m thinking that it's better to keep paint off from surfaces that guide air to the engine.

Re: Carb painting?

Thanks for the answers.. Thanks to this site I'm on my way to becoming a marine mechanic :)

One more question... This one is more general about painting. What about the surfaces where gaskets are placed on, should they be painted in carb or left bare?

The same applies to bell housing and outdrive gasket surfaces, bare or painted?

Thanks in advance...
