I have a 1997 Proline 2950 Cuddy cabin. Motors are two 225 Johnson's. The steering has a lot of play in it at idle speed. I have to turn the wheel several times in order for the motors to turn. This of course plays havoc in tight docking aresa, Underway the play does not appear to be as bad. How do I tighten the steering mechanism, or is this a fluid problem in the wheel housing? When I removed the fluid cap, it appears as thought the components are lubricated. Appreciate any help, as the boat is an hour away from a repair shop.

you probably need to bleed the hydrolic system, or you have a bad pump.

Here is a link to a website with a pic of the helm. At the top of the steering column there is a black knob that states "Fluid Fill",this is located on top of the black square behind the wheel. Is this supposed to be full of fluid, or is this an access point to apply small amounts of lubricant. At present, this is empty. Should this be filled with hydraulic fluid?
