Hi Forum,
I have twin 1990 140 rudes. The starboard engine has no spark. I have swapped over switches, senors, coils, checked all my wiring several times and swapped over the power packs. I have a factory manual but just could not figure it out. I brought my boat to a rude dealer near by. He said that the stator was bad and it will cost $500 to repair. I agreed, then I got another call that the power pack was bad. It was working on the other motor just a couple days before.
Now I sit and wonder, what are the odds of both components going bad on a 18 year old motor at the same time. Starting to smell bad, I think I am getting ripped off.
My question is, will a stator on that engine cause a no spak condition? Is this part just for charging or does it also give the power pack an ignition reference signal. Does this engine have another ignition trigger device? I never had a complaint of dead batteries, why replace the stator.
I would have thought they would have diagnosed the so called bad power pack when they tested the system the first time? Any feed back would be great.
Thanks
