Mercury 40hp 1980- How do i remove impeller

I took my water pump apart but I could not figure out how to get my impeller off of the shaft. I tried prying it gently but it will not budge. I looked for a lock washer or pin bud did not see one.

Looked at my manual and took everything apart to get to the impeller. I was chewed to hell and so I bought a new one. The new one looks big for the top pump housing but the guy at the parts store assured me that you mush bend the blades to get it to fit by spinning the shaft while putting the housing on.

Does this sound right?

Which direction should I spin the shaft, cw or ccw, or does it matter?

A new impeller is larger than the housing do you have the number and rotation does not matter with a new impeller.
