Hi. Lost two teeth on my flywheel. Merc 5.0 i/o. Does the motor have to come completely out for flywheel replacement. How much would I expect to pay to have it done? Thanks. Bill

Re: Flywheel replacement

yes motor has to come completely out.

how much it costs depends on whether your dental insurance covers teeth repair. I went with the preventative plan this year so I only get free preventative care and cleanings and x-rays and the basic corrective isn't covered. Now if you have comprehensive then all it should cost you is whatever your copay is, otherwise they're going to bill you for the repair. If you have the preventative coverage then a lot of times they'll reduce the bill if you tell them your insurance doesn't cover it, because they artificially inflate the bill to milk as much money out of the insurance company as possible but when they know its coming out of your pocket and you make a stink then they usually become a little more reasonable and honorably (but they're still crooks).

You can do it yourself.

That is the cheapest, least expensive, way period.

You do know there is no way to tell how mush a guy where you live will charge vs a guy living across the country.

2 teeth side bye side or there are teeth between the broken teeth.

pull the drive, pull the motor, remove flywheel cover, coupler, flywheel, install new ring gear, install motor, re-align, install drive.

Ayuh,...

Boat Dr. got it,...

No need to replace the Flywheel,....Just the Ring Gear.....

Much Cheaper on the Parts end of the bill that way.....

Labor will be determined by your local shop rates...

Re: Flywheel replacement

8-10 hours just for the motor, if they got to spend a day on some boats taking out the seats.

Buy a flywheel on ebay, do it yourself.

You didn't reply about the spacing of the teeth that are missing.

Ive seen some flywheel missing teeth for 20 years.

As long as they are not one big empty space.
