okay got the shift shaft seals out and I'm looking at an exploded view and parts list and it is showing upper seal, lower seal, bushing. looks like I'm missing a seal from the exploded view

would like to know exactly what parts I need to keep it from leaking, thanks, Jason

Re: shift shaft seals

Jason, if your engine parts breakdown shows 2 seals and your engine has only one the chances are someone over the years changed the bushing assm. Thats a common practice with marinas as it's quicker for the mechanic so just install 1 seal lips up and your good to go.

it's just a flat rubber washer on top of the bushing, there are no seals with a lip.

also, should I replace the bushing, it's got rubber seals inside

Don't bother trying to remove the seals from the bushing. Buy the complete assy for a few dollars (I think about $14) and save yourself the headache.
