I have a 1999 Mercury EFI on a 187 Champion. I have a problem with it dying (just like you turn the key off) while running down the lake. I have replaced the fuel filter, plugs, fuel pump bulb, and water pump. After the engine dies (and water comes over the back) the engine will start right back up and run for the rest of the day with no problem. Anyone ever have a problem such as that???????

Re: 99 Mercury EFI dies while on plane

you might want to start looking at your kill circuit.. key switch lanyard switch
and manual stop button if it has one. you did not say what motor ie: hp or serial number so it's hard to say what motor we are talking about
anyway i hope this gives you a start anyway. i have looked at 30-90 hp most all use yellow and black and a black wire for a stop circuit. black and yellow runs back to the ecm the black looks like it runs to ground. I have had a key switch go bad it sounds like what you are saying wot and nothing.

hope it helps
