Hello. This motor is new to me and I find that after I've run it and then lay it on its side I get burnt gas/oil mix seeping out in the lower cowling near the point where the engine is bolted to the lower cowling. It is definitely exhaust oil. I'm not familiar with how the connection is kept tight between the motor and the leg but it appears as though this connection is where the leak is coming from. It is frustrating in that it makes a heck of a mess in the cowl each time. I have looked at the parts list and it shows gaskets (outer housing, housing to cover, crankcase to cover and a bushing) all more or less at the connection point but I'm just not sure which of these is the probable leak. While running, I have not seen any exhaust fumes at this connection, just oily residue after it has been laying on its side, Anyone willing to take a shot at this? Thanks, Rick.

Rick..... To remove that powerhead in order to replace the gasket is not a complicated job. Look underneath the hood pan to see the retaining screws. Observe what powerhead components must be removed and which can stay where they are.

You can even leave the manual starter alone by simply pulling the cord out as far as possible then tying a loop knot in the cord close to the manual starter. This gives you plenty of slack in the cord so that you can lay the powerhead aside while cleaning the gasket related surface of it.

Use gasket sealer on the gasket(s), available most everywhere. It has a small brush in its screw off cap.

This assumes that the leakage is coming from the gasket just beneath the powerhead. Oh, those powerhead retaining screws/bolts..... just one loose one will result in that problem.... check them.

Hi There.

Well I followed Joe Reeves suggestion... sort of. I was looking at how to remove the power head and found that the bolts were rather loose so I just tightened them up and it fixed the problem. Got off rather easy on that one. Best of luck. Rick.
