oil mixture for 1940 evinrude

What would be the oil mixture for a 1940 evinrude(22.5hp)?I have it mixed at 16:1 right now just to be supersafe till i know for sure.

i beleive you are correct, i think 24:1 was 1955 or 56.

Yes,
The old opposed twins like your Speeditwin get the 16:1 ratio...
Make sure you eat your Wheaties before you try to start it - that's 30 cubic inches to rope over all at once!

lol. lots of wheaties for sure ,dont want to flood that baby can be quite a workout,

I once had the starter go out on a 90hp Mariner when I knew much less about boats than I do now. I was out on the water. We tried everything. jumping the solenoid, cleaning wires, everything. I knew there was a pull start rope in a bag inside the cowling. I get the thing out and toss the directions to the side. Wrap it around a give it a rip and nearly pull my shoulder out. Again, I try it. ouch. This must be impossible. Again, same result. My buddy said to me "try turning the key to on position". It made it easier to pull and started right up. I never thought to trouble shoot because I new the big motor would probably be difficult to turn anyway. Just a bit off topic but since the orig issues is resolved it will do no harm and it was kinda funny. It was a little humbling.

hear yah!,did the same with a 115 evinrude,boy all i can say is its a good thing im in fairly good shape and weight 235lbs or id think about hiring a pull start -boy,lol.
