 74 johnson 2 h.p. has spark but will not fire with fuel. What cylinder pressure range is satisfactory? If pressure is low is there a likelihood that crank seals need to be replaced as well as new rings providing piston seems o.k.?

my 76 2 hp johnny, compression is around 70-80 psi, but you have to pull the rope till the guage quits going up. what does your plug look like? do not use starting fluid on it. only premixed fuel, you can spray some into the carb, or put a little in the cylinder.

Re: 74 johnson 2 h.p.

Thankyou gentleman for your advice on the 2 horse. Plug is good and can generate "explosion" of fuel in chamber if grounded on outside of plug hole but if fuel mixture is squirted into chamber and plug inserted, it never fires. I will do a re-check on compression. Perhaps I should do a sprk strength test. There seems to be lots of spark across gap on plug but it never ignites fuel in chamber.

Sincerely
Keith

are you using a champion RJ6C spark plug, gapped at .030???? that is what it should have.
