Hello all,

I have been working on what I believe to be an ignition problem for quite some time. I made the decision that it is an ignition problem based on some of the great posts in this forum. My spark is very weak. There is no way it will jump 7/16" I can barely see it on the spark plug when grounded to the engine. I have run all the ohm checks in my manual and they appear ok. I live in a place where I can not obtain a DVA meter to test the output of the stator and I do not have a timing light to check for intermittent spark at the plug wires. The question is, can I use an O'scope in the place of a DVA and what would the signal look like? I assume it would be pulses of roughly 400v. My scope is capable or reading that. Has anyone done this before? I am hoping to do some testing and isolate something before going down to New Zealand in a month.

I'm not sure of the 4 stroke stator, but the 2 stroke stator has two sets of windings in addition to the charging windings, a set of low speed windings and a set of high speed windings. Output at cranking on the low speed is in the range of 200 V and the high speed in the range 25 to 40 V

Output at 2800 RPM low speed reducing, I don't know the V, high speed approaching 400 V
