Hi,

I have a 1979 Johnson v-6 175 hp engine with a bad crankshaft. Can I replace the powerhead of my engine with a 1982 Johnson v-6 175 hp powerhead? Thanks

Same powerhead. A bolt on conversion. You might choose to swap the electronics and the carbs, too-to make it easier. The 82 has the newer fuel primer solenoid instead of the choke plates-a nice cold-start feature. Uses the 82 fuel rail. They both use unlimited power packs, but the packs are not directly interchangeable. The 456/457 heads on the 79 were fairly high compression. You may opt to run the 79 heads. They both have the intake filler blocks so you don't need to take the intakes off.
