I have a 1988 24' Kayat Pontoon Boat. It has an Evinrude 88. The boat belonged to some older friends of my parents. They bought it used. They were unsure of the motor's year and age.

It is an Evinrude 88
Model E88MSLCCC
Serial Number 1785050

What year and what horsepower is is the motor?

I would like to obtain a repair manuel. Any suggestions?

It has been running great, but I believe I need to replace the water pump. I am not getting flow from the upper return line, as I have in the past. Could it be the water pump, or perhaps the thermostat? If I replace the water pump, should I also replace the thermostat?

the year of your motor is 1988 and it is rated as 88hp. I would suggest that you replace the impellor in the water pump , it is recomended to do so every 2 years as preventive maintenance. as far as the thermostat it probably wouldn't hurt to replace it. t. here is a website where you will be able to order replacement parts and you can get the manual right here from Iboats.http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=00c84168532eb4955f6108feff62ce0e

CC=1988. The powerhead should be identical to the 90 hp that year. It was marketed as a lower-cost alternative to the 90. Your "88" sold for less than the 90, as OMC reduced the sell price by reducing options, For instance-your engine will have the basic fuel pump instead of the expensive gas/oil mixing pump and separate oil tank. Some may/may not have power trim. If you are unsure of the maintenance history of the engine, a new water pump impeller is a good item to replace. If, after impeller replacement, one (or both) banks of the cylinders overheats, then consider replacing the thermostats. Their replacement would also apply if one or both sides are running cold-not coming up to normal operating temps.

Re: ID My Evinrude 88

Thanks Guys, y'all are quick.

I gotta go to Houston from out in a rural area 40 miles form Houston. My mechanic needs parts for a 1998 Case Skid Steer we own. We work on this, a 1975 For 6610 Tractor, a 1998 Komatsu D37E dozer and a fairly new Kobota 35 HP tractor. I beilieve we can fix the water pump and replace the Evinrdue 88 water pump.

I am very grateful.
