Default Evinrude 175 overheat now STUCK flywheel need help

Hey all,

I posted a while back with my overheated Evinrude 175 year 1985, short story, replaced impeller, t-stats, head gaskets, etc and she runs again. However the rectifier/regulator was also damaged in the overheat and now won't charge and eats up 12 volts as soon as battery swith is turned on. So I posted and found a new rectifier but it is located under the flywheel which has not been off that motor since I was in college. I am not a novice so here is the story so far.

Removed top nut and soaked shaft in PC Blaster overnight. Installed pro grade puller with grade 8 bolts and hardened steel washers on top side of bolts. Tightend with wrench and tapped on flywheel. No budge. Put electric impact wrench on puller and tightened, more pc Blaster, left under pressure over night, next morning tapped puller, no luck. Took pneumatic air impact wrench to puller, tightened, lifted flywheel with harmonic fork, tapped shaft, no luck, banged shaft. Heated (I was careful) flywheel with propane torch to too hot to touch, tightened puller further with air impact, banged shaft, no luck. Tap Tap Bang Bang Bang Bang Whack Whack Whack with progressively bigger hammer, now up to 2 pound sledge. Four days now, trailered boat to marine mechanic and put acetelyne torch on flywheel, whack whack, no luck. Today we plan on OVERHEATING FLYWHEEL but before I completely ruin the whole thing, does anyone have an idea on how to get this thing off. I am considering cutting with a cut off saw until I have enough to split the flywheen with a cold chisel. So far I have also sheared one grade 8 washer, now have washers and SAE washers above. Any ideas or suggestions?

some times it just takes time. overheating the flywheel will warp it. and have to be replaced. you are not suppose to hit the flywheel either. keep tightening, and a couple of raps on the center bolt. no prying flywheel either. it will go bang sooner of later.

I have a 72 Johnson 50 hp that I made up a press using 20 ton hydraulic jack. Snaped a grade 8 bolt and bent a 3/4" thick 8" circular plate. Flywheel did not move. I believe the flywheel turned on the key. Before it seized on I also had the flywheel off two or three times the week before checking out the stator and pickup. Did the original poster get the flywheel off? John

2 things you can try, if its looking like you might have to trash the flywheel,

clip the anode of a mig welder to the outter rim, set it on the low amp and touch the crankshaft with the gun tip. (unplug any onboard computers first)

the other thing is drill an 1/8th inch hole through the flywheel next to the crankshaft to relieve the stress. After it comes off tap the hole and red loctite a bolt in there, cut the head off the bolt and grind it flush.

jonesg, I was thinking of using my carbon torch. I would put the ground clamp on the flywheel and the carbon in my stinger. I have a AC/DC welder. I assume that DC- would be best. Should I try this with the puller on with pressure
