I want to change the plugs on my 1970's 6hp seahorse . I removed 2 ac m44c plugs. Are they the correct ones and what should i set the gap to on the new ones.

OMC designed her to use Champion J6C plugs. Gap at .030".

M44C is the AC equivelent to J6C. You don't say exactly what year your 6 is, but I have a 1970 6hp parts book in front of me that says Champion J4J (Now J4C) or AC M42K. Other years may vary. It goes on to say "We recommend Champion or AC Spark Plugs. Brand loyalty is a great thing. I've used both and both work just fine as long as you have the correct ones specified by the engine mfr.

Actually the J6C/M44C are one heat range hotter. May be preferrable if you do a lot of trolling.

yea, J6C are better. I wouldn't give a J4C the time of day. I noticed a big difference in performance when I used J6C's in my older 5 1/2

AC or Autolites aren't worth using for fishing weights either.:D

As F_R implies it does depend upon the exact year. J6Cs up to 1976.
1977 onwards QL77JC4.

I have not checked but I would guess the change coincides with the introduction of CD ignition in place of points.
