Idle Problem 150 hp Mariner

If I idle my "96" 2 stroke 150 hp mariner for about 5-10 minutes, when I put in gear it stalls out. I have to open the throttle full to get it started. Is the idle too rich?

Yes, it sounds like it's flooding does it smoke a lot till it cleans out?
