brass plug for heat riser broke off

this is my first post, hope i get this right.

i have a 1994 chaparral with a 5.0LX both my heat riser brass plugs broke when i tried to open them to drain.

my question is what size of tap? and what size is the bolt

I`ll assume you mean the riser/elbow. Commonly called 1/4 pipe tap and uses a tapered type thread meaning you ARE NOT to screw the plug in all the way.
Just snug and it won`t leak. no need to "crank it in"

Ayuh,....

If there's still part of them in the castings,...

Use an Easy-out to remove them instead of a drill....

Then the threads will be preserved....

drill out to 3/16 or slightly larger, use a square easy out to remove ,thread size is usualy 1/8 npt, good luck
