Yesterday I bought a old 40 hp mercury quicksilver with controls for 50 bucks. Now of course the guy I got it from said the guy he got it from said it used to run. We all hear that story every time we buy a used out board. Any way, after giving it a brief look see I could not locate the plate with model and serial number. Anyone know where that is. I believe the motor is a 60/s model but not sure.

If the plate on the tilt bracket is gone the powerhead should be stamped on the top near the exhaust plates
