I have a 60hp ELPTO and replaced my regulator. My tach will go up to 7000 rpm no problem is this normal? Is the tach right?

Re: normal rpm range

Normal operating range for that motor is 5000-5500 RPM. Did it just start this since replacing the regulator?

No, it's been wrapping 6000-6200rpm since I've owned it. That's been about five or six years. When I first started out after replacing the regulator it went clear past the peg, seven or eight thousand rpm. After I turned the motor off and on a few times it seems to be pretty steady at about 6200 rpm at 34mph. That's wide open throttle. I'm wondering if it has a computer like a car and has to readjust itself?

Try RPM reading with another tacho at full wot, if same readings are obtained you are over reving, change for correct pitch prop that will give you 5500 rpm at full throttle.
