How do boat names affect resale?

I saw a Boat for sale today with the name NUNYA F.B.

It looked like a great old boat but when I saw the supersized name accross the back I just couldn't see myself bringing my kids around like that.

My questions are:

1. Would you ever change the name of a boat for any reason? I hear it's bad luck like bananas.

2. Do you thing a bad name hurts resale or a great name helps resale?

Well, I'm not superstitious, so changing the name on a boat's no big deal to me.

As far as a boat's name affecting a sale, I suppose it might for someone who was particularly sensitive about such things.

For me, a name like that would make me take a very close look at the boat, itself, though. Sometimes, folks with that kind of attitude aren't all that careful with their junk. They may also be a little more prone to fail to disclose problems with their junk when they unload it.

A big part of a transaction, for me, is dealing with the owner of something I'm considering buying. A lot of attitude generally sends me to the next seller down the line.

in your case it certainly did.......

i think in todays fast food society.....changing a boats name wont be a big deal to most people........

however....as stated above....a name like that would make me take a long hard look at the owner before i made a decision.

if superstitious, there is a boat de-naming and re-naming ceremony. it appeases the gods. my only problem with them, is the ghost lettering after the decals are removed.

I would have said "no effect on resale", but after seeing the example posted. then it would really stop me from buying it....even if I removed the name, it would probably be outlines in the hull.

Ha, I believe Empty pockets use to be my father's CB handle while he drove over the road tractor trailer.

I say there should be a way of getting rid of the ghost lettering left behind, may take a little sanding and maybe even a little repaint but so what.

Just the other day I seen a car all tricked out, doors opened by sliding up, anyhow it had big tires and in small letters right behind the back door it said
"26" B***H". The car is owned by a person of another culture.
