Champion L76V Sparkplug question

A few weeks ago I took the sparkplugs out of my motor and thought for sure that someone had put the wrong ones in it. It has Champion L76V which turns out to be a surface gap plug. I had never seen that type of plug.
I checked the manual and sure enough it calls for that number.
I read the posts about how some motors don't like these surface gap plugs, and how the factory manuals have better info than my manual.
There was a recomendation to use a 77JC4. Is that ok for an Evinrude model 60172E?

You can use the QL77JC4 at .030.

Re: Champion L76V Sparkplug question

The plugs listed in boatsetup.com are L76V Surface Gap or QL77JC4. I think the surface gap plugs would be suitable for contiuous high speed operation but for low speed use the conventional plugs
