The boat is a 1974 302 V-8, It needs another outdrive. What is a fair price to pay for a volvo penta 280 outdrive? It needs the upper & lower together. I see they vary drasticly in price.

What is a "normal" price? Is there anything to keep an eye out for on these drives such as weak points? I know nothing about them. If it's too much I may junk the boat. I'm not even considering new, just used.

If you keep looking maybe you can pickup a whole boat for cheap with a bad motor.

I picked up a boat with a good motor and bad lower unit. Upper was ok and transom mount was good.

To bad you don't need the transom i'm gonna remove it and leave it in the woods in my backyard till i can figure out what to do with it.

Good advice, That's what I did for my other boat, I picked up a whole boat for dirt cheap, kept the mercriuser drive & sold the engine. I will keep my eyes open.
