hard start when cold

I posted earlier of a starter issue- but I also am dealing with a "starting" issue.

As I iterated earlier, I have a 1990 Candia 180 with a 4.3l King Cobra I/O. When the engine is cold, it takes some cranking the fire her up. It appears as though it takes it a few cranks for the gas to get to the carb. Could it be fuel pump issue? Is there a way to prime the engine or manual pressurize the fuel line like you can on an outboard?

Are you pumping the throttle a couple of times and advancing the throttle slightly in neutral before trying to start it?

I don't pump it, just advance it. It usually takes about 30 to 45 secs to start this way when its cold.

Which seems like an hour when the family is watching!

What he said^^^^^^^
That is standard procedure for starting a carbed engine....
Pumping the throttle not only puts a couple of jets of gas into the carb from the accelerator pump, but sets the choke as well......
Be ready to back off the throttle when it catches.....;)

2 - 4 times. Just be careful not to pump it to much or you'll flood it out.
