Repainting my Jon Boat

I bought a 16 ft Jon Boat this summer. I am absolutely green on boating only been on one a handful of times when I was like 12. I'm looking to paint this bad boy a nice blue color. Right now it painted with a light silver paint just a step duller then bright aluminum I suppose. It's in great condition in fact if I wasn't insistant on it being blue it probably wouldnt need paint. the bottom is scratched a little bit but I assume thats to be expected out of a 79 lowe aluminum boat. To be honest I dont know whether its because I m just scared of messing it up or that I'm a bit lazy (maybe a little of both) but I need to know the easiest way to get this thing looking good with minimum elbow grease.

good washing, i use a vibrating sander, light sanding, wash down and paint. i have had excellant results using high gloss rustoleum oil base paint.
