Hello,

This motor generates spark, but it seems a little weak. It will not start. I changed the plugs and points. The small spring under the rotor is not factory. I was thinking it may need a new coil, but I'm not sure. I'm not that familiar with these motors. It has a magneto. Any suggestions??

Thanks,

Rich

did you change the condensers? Weak spark can be caused by bad condensers.

not sure about the condensers. I had the work done by someone else. I'll have to check. Thanks.

Was the motor running when you received it? Could be a lot of things

Rich, the ignition system should generate a good "snap" when you spin the distributor pulley. The snap is the spark jumping to ground. If you do not get this, check the ignition coil for cracks in the plastic, dirty grounds and/or change the condenser.

You can eliminate the dissy cap, by running a test lead from the coil connector to grround, and see if you get a good spark when spinning the pulley.
