98 Yamaha XL1200 vibration

Long story short, the kids sucked a rope into the jet at speed and locked it up.
Replaced the impeller, shaft and bearings but I have a vibration which I believe
is in the motor. The ski has a funny sound to it at idle and a shake coming on
to plane. What sort of damage did this cause to the motor. Thanks in advance,

inspect the motor mounts and the dampner at the rear of the engine,, where the shaft conects to the pto. I suspect a broken mount or 2 and possibly engine is now out of alignment

Thanks Jeff. Would I put the ski in the water and watch for engine movement
while i blip the throttle? I've heard horror stories of twisted crankshafts and
hope this is not the case. Thanks again, Steve

I make a routine of checking motor mounts every time I go out,, broke so many of them jumping wakes,, grab the engine and pull on it to see if it moves, do it from both sides, a bad mount will show and the motor will move , good mounts the motor will be really solid in place.

Jeff, The motor is as solid as it can be. Guess it has to come out. Steve

have you checked the drive shaft bearing where it goes through the hull behind the engine?

if u feel it in your feet, drive shaft
feel it in your hands engine side
