I am new to this forum recently and was curious if anyone knew why my 28HP Evinrude would be pissing hot water out of the cooling system. I am currently located in the lower Florida Keys and the water tempurature is usually around 70-75 degrees. However, everytime I run my outboard the water coming out of the pisser has got to be between 120-130 degrees. Even the heads, areas around the spark plugs seem to be almost untouchable (180-200 degrees) when the cover is removed. This is after running the engine for about 15 minutes. I believe the impeller might be on its way out and forcing the engine to almost overheat. Sometimes the outboard will sputter a bit but I believe that is a setting on the carb itself.
Would these issures be caused by a bad themrastat at all? Impeller? Clog in the water intake system? Please give me your opinions, I am pretty knowledgable about the outboard, just really do not know where to start problem solving. Thank you!
Taking the skiff in for servicing the engine this week. Many mechanics have told me it was the impeller wearing down and/or the therostat. I have never personally had this service done to the engine since I have owned it so I figure it is probably a good idea! This is what the ol' sled looks like, check it out...
