Hi everybody, I just bought my first boat. 1986 Bayliner Capri with AQ131A and a 275 outdrive. It wasn't running when I bought it and the guy told me that he thought that the timing belt had skipped a tooth. So I spent a weekend working on it and finally got the belt all lined up (I don't have a lot of mechanic experience). I charged the battery and finally got it started HURRAY:D Anywho my question is this: The engine feels like it wants to stall/hesitates when I "hit the throttle" hard, it actually died a couple of times. If I do it gradually it runs ok. What should I do to get this fixed? Also how can I tell if the impeller is running and water is going through the pipes? Thank you in advance, I am new to boating and any help will be greatly appreciated.

It may also need a full tuneup and carb rebuild. Wouldn't hurt to do a compression test too.

Sounds good. I'll do a compression test and also how can I tell that the freshwater is going through the pipes? And can I switch between lakes and the ocean without any damage?
Thanks Don.
