Re: anyone have any Bravo II outdrive info?
What do you want to know?
It's a cone clutch, shift-in-the-top, raw water pump belt driven on front of engine, drive, rated to handle up to 400hp. It takes a prop unique to that drive (well, I think an old TRS prop would fit, but they haven't been made for years), and even the aluminum props are over $500 new.
It's usually found on cruisers (I'll assume that's what Antiqua Sunbridge is), it's popularity has declined dramatically in the last 5 years, due to the push for the Bravo 3. The idea behind it is to put "very large" diameter props on it. Like almost 20" diameter (Alphas and Bravo 1 props are typically 14.5- 15.5"). This allows the props to have a large surface area and push a lot of water. This is needed to get big ol heavy cruisers up on plane.
The reason it's less popular, is that the Bravo 3, with its twin props developes the low end push those boats need, plus makes them handle better in reverse. The manufacturers are equipping their cruiser style boat almost exclusively with Bravo 3s now. I haven't seen a B2 on a new boat at a boat show (granted my boat show is small) in over 5 years.
Not a bad drive, just not popular anymore. I did have one Mercruiser service tech tell me that on a 37' Rinker cruiser I saw with twin B3s that it should have had twin B2s. He stated that the larger lower end bearings of the B2 would hold up better over time, in that big heavy boat than the B3s would.
