No water tube connecting L.U. to block?

1993 Evinrude 35/50 Jet (E50JETB) short shaft.

Just got this motor and it's pumping water out the tell just fine, but not all the water being pumped is leaving through the tell hose. When I shut the motor down water leaks out a couple of holes on the shaft housing.

I've worked on Yamaha and Mercury motors and both had a copper water tube that plugged into the top of the water pump housing and delivered water to the block.

Just dropped the jet drive and I don't see a copper tube but it looks like top of the water pump has a grommet that butts up to another grommet when the pump is raised.

Is this right? Am I missing a tube? Maybe if I replace the grommets I'll get a better seal? Maybe they're just misaligned?

Thanks in advance!

not that familiar with the jet motors so don't know about water tube on them. but on standard prop motors not all the water exits the tell tale. In fact most of it does not. Most will exit with the exhaust. The fact that water is coming out of the tell tale indicates that water is getting to the block. Is is overheating?
