Relying on your locator to tell you if the engine will or will not start is risky because starting a hot engine is different than starting a cold engine. If you set a minimum starting voltage, your engine may crank for 5 seconds and then you run out of cranking power. Big engines require more cranking power than small ones. There is no magic number for this. Your best bet is to carry a jump start unit. Anything less than 12 volts is essentially a dead battery.
