I just rebuilt the motor (seals, bearings, rings, water pump, head job, everything) I broke it in somewhat in the yard with a earphone? hooked up to the waterhose. I did the 1/4 throtle for 5 min, then cooldown, then little more than 1/4 throttle for 5 min then cooldown etc.... I took it out today and the thing was overheating to the point that it would not crank after I shut it down from the smoke that was billowing from the engine. By the way it's a 1998 Mariner bigfoot 50 4 stroke. I took the thermostat out and it still runs hot?! I cleaned out the ports under the powerhead and replace the mounting gasket. I have a strong stream of water out the pee hole. I'm befuddled!?>!?!?!!?!? Help PLEASE!>...

I didn't run it at more than half throttle while I was out. One min it was fine next it was smoking like a train. A little oil leaking from the cam seal on top. :( Could the excess heat be from the bearings breaking in under load???

I'd like to hear an answer on this on too. My friend's is doing near the same thing. I think his motor is mounted too high though because it runs fine on the earmuffs also, but his only does it off plane between 2k and 3k rpms.

Maybe the water pump is broken. Running one on a garden hose isnt like making it pump its own water.

I'm running it in a tub of water. It's pumping fine.

I ran my engine for 5 minutes full throttle and it started making a bit of a clacking or clicking, bogged down and stalled. It is overheating and when I go to pull the rip cord, smoke bellows from the pee hole. It looks like the engine has been worked on. There is some sort of epoxy stuff on the engine.

Any thoughts???
