Greetings All,

I have a 93' Johnson 15hp outboard that has been running strong for the last 2 weeks... It rained like crazy yesterday and after it all subsided I thought I'd go take a ride.

The motor turned on easily (as usual) but I noticed white smoke. Figured it was water just burning off and would go away... After about 30 seconds, the motor shut off and never looked back... I cranked and cranked and could not get it started.

I have already checked the fuel for water and it looks fine. I checked all the hoses to make sure that there is no air in the lines, and that seemed fine too. I did notice that my bulb was losing pressure and the connector that goes from the hose to the motor was leaking. I cut the tip off and reconnected it then played with the connection to see if I could keep my pressure and I did... Tried to crank again and NOTHING!

Anyone have any other suggestions?

It sure sounds and acts like you have water in the carb.

Take the fuel line off the motor, poke the pointy end of a plastic zip tie in the end to open the valve, point it into a suitable container and squeeze the primer bulb to get a fuel sample.

Wait a few minutes then look for any 'beads' that will roll around in the bottom of your container under the gasoline..

If any, clean the water out of your fuel tank, drain your carb and flush the lines, fuel pump, etc., until you get clean fuel to the carb.

Hit the starter button.

Close that fuel tank vent when you are not using the boat.
