I have a 1968 chrysler 35hp.
The problem is at open throttle the motor doesn't put out full power.

Starts good. idles normally.

Just put in new stator plate including coils condensers points. The motor ran great the first couple times out.

Assume compresion is good. Both plugs fire. I gapped the points .20.

It's wierd because it idles great, but when i give it gas is doesn't sound normal and wont make good power.

The reeds look good. Im not a mechanic but they don't look bent or anything.

Any thoughts would be great.

A good place to start is by checking compression.

Re: 68' chrysler 35hp problem

I've found that when I throttle up and get no power, but it's still smooth that I'm running on one cylinder. Once was when I forgot to connect one of my plugs, and again when I had other ignition problems. An intermittent spark will make for a rough running engine that jerks the engine around. At least on mine, running totally on one cylinder is surprisingly smooth, but has 1/2 the power. Mine won't plane.

Test your basics; fuel, fire and compression and you should have it. Well usually.;)

Also, if your link and sync is off, the throttle won't be open all the way when the timing is at full advance.
