here are a couple of pics of my 68 FD. I picked it up early in the summer. its my first boat and has proven to be a great first boat as well as a perfect fishing boat. it came with a 6HP Johnson but I think Ill look for a 10-15HP since she is a tad slow with all my gear and an extra guy. It had the bow cover when I got it, but I removed it (stored safely in my garage, dont worry) and I added a small casting deck as well as a small compartment. the boat has some character and patina, so I was very careful not to do any damage to the boat adding these things. Just a few small screw holes is all. fresh lights, paint and wheel bearings on the trailer and a trolling motor and a depth finder rounded out the package. Im usually by myself on small metro lakes, but that is where the boat really shines.

had to add this pic. This is how you would find me all summer. Bare foot in the boat enjoying the weather.

Shizzy, Very nice!

Gees... and over time you'll find out what your "new" '68 FD boat is really about.

My old '68 FD... running it 40 years now.

yep, probably the best $750 I could have spent. I have no complaints about the boat. It must have lived a pretty easy life. it only has one small scrape on the bottom, is in fantastic shape and even came with the original oars. It probably has 40 more years of life left in it. Since it is so easy to use I use it more in a week then most of my friends use their bigger boats all season.

Not that different than my first boat (that I got cut loose on).
It too had a nice shiny Merc on the back.
Had a lot of fun in it.

Nice find. As an owner of the lower-sided version of the same boat, I would recommend at least the 15hp. I've used everything from a 5.5 to a 30 on mine, and the 15 planes the boat with a heavy load, and still trolls nicely. I might keep an eye out for a classic Johnson 20 from the early 70's. They were great motors with parts still in good supply. Happy boating! 50's
